Can an Atheist experience a Changed Life?

RAY: This is an outside link that I think is very interesting. Alister McGrath in the video explains his decision to change from Atheism toward a belief in the God of the Bible as his worldview. He does not seem to have believed the Bible 100% however in that he still hangs on to some Evolution ideas. God does not require that we know everything first before coming to Him. Each of us is on a journey. But the Journey begins for the Christian when they trust Christ as their source of truth in their lives.

Atheist blogger Leah Libresco converts to Christianity

A prominent atheist blogger says she has converted to Christianity.

Leah Libresco made the announcement on Monday on her Patheos blog, “Unequally Yoked.” The blog post, titled “This is my last post for the Patheos Atheist Portal,” details how Libresco came to her decision.
She said she struggled with moral law, exploring where it comes from and what’s behind it. As an atheist, she states that friends told her that her philosophy was unsustainable.

“I was ready to admit that there were parts of Christianity and Catholicism that seemed like a pretty good match for the bits of my moral system that I was most sure of, while meanwhile my own philosophy was pretty kludged together and not particularly satisfactory,” she wrote.

She goes back to the night before Palm Sunday, where after a debate on religion she then had a discussion with a friend about morality.

After a back-and-forth where her friend asked her to make an argument about where moral law comes from, she couldn’t think of any. She then realized that it had to come from something like a person or being.

“I believed that the Moral Law wasn’t just a Platonic truth, abstract and distant. It turns out I actually believed it was some kind of Person, as well as Truth. And there was one religion that seemed like the most promising way to reach back to that living Truth,” she writes.

C.S. Lewis was a famous Atheist who changed to Christ
Another very famous Atheist that changed over to becoming a Christ follower was C.S.Lewis. I hope to invite the past president of the C.S. Lewis society of Toronto also past president of ministry called “the Shantymen”. Dr. Arthur Dixon to come and join us on an upcomming show to talk about the things that attract a person away from the Atheistic world view to the Christian world view. I would also like to ask Arthur about his experience in inner city mission work and in his various ministries that he has been involved in, including his current itinerant Pastor Ministry among the Christian Brethren of Ontario (Also called the Plymouth Brethren).

In the meantime if you turned from Atheism to Christ we would like to hear from you. Please add your comments to this topic and let us know what you experienced in switching over your worldview.

Changed Lives

RAY: One of the ways that God reveals Himself is by His written Prophetic Word which we discussed on a previous program. Another way that God reveals Himself is by the Manifestation of the Trinity Father, Son and Holy Spriit in the Christians Life.

This week we decided to discuss this topic. Most will say that this is not proof that God exists. But if you think about it, if God does exist, does it not make sense that He would choose to reveal Himself in some way to His creation. Many say God is unknowable. Perhaps they do not Know Him but He claims that He is knowable. This week we are discussing what it is to Know God in your life.

In our first segmant we start out with a discussion about the promotion of the Christian faith in public places. Then we devote segments 1b, 2 and 3 to the main topic “Changed Lives”.

Segment 1a – Christians handing out tracts in Public Places
Brad called Adam Benton Adam Bethune in this program by mistake. He mentioned that we would like to have Adam join us in a future program. Forgive us for giving your name incorrectly Adam.

Segment 1b – Christian World view verses Secular Humanist / Evolutionary World View

Segment 2 – Paul Smith’s testimony about His life change.

Segment 3 – Lisette Smith’s testimony about Her life change.

RAY: I added the following article from another blog site becasue it relates to handing out tracts and it points out that Chrsitians that do things in a Loving and joyful manner: In a manner which manifests Christ to others are able to communicate God effectively. Ones that do things in a less friendly manner do not make friends but instead make enemies. King Solomon once said that One that wishes to make a friend must show himself friendly. The New Testament says that the Joy of the Lord is our strength. Unjoyful, Bitter Christians are not of much use for our Lord or to those they wish to reach. The message of the tracts that Christians joyfully hand out however must still tell the truth. If A tract talks about heaven it must by necessity point out that there is a hell. If it talks about Light it must refer to darkness.

4000 Tracts Quietly Seeded at Muslim Festival
July 2012

This year, the Arab International Festival in Dearborn, Michigan was again targeted by two types of Christians. And the news media picked up both stories. In one, Christian “protesters” charged in waving confronting signs and placards and carrying a pig’s head on a pole. The other was Tim Berends, a six-foot-tall guy wearing a warm smile and a I-(heart)-Muslims T-shirt.

While the “protesters” were ducking rocks and bottles, Tim quietly moved through the crowds handing out Chick tracts to booth keepers and spectators alike. By the end of the 3-day festival, that attracted over 300,000 attendees, he had salted 4000 copies of the tract, Unforgiven into the hands of mostly Muslim people.

The T-shirt, with “John 9:35-38” on the back, attracted much attention with some Muslims asking where they could get one. Tim would walk against the flow greeting people with a smile and the Arab greeting, “As-Salamu Alaykum (pronounced, aah suh laah mu aah lay kum) which means “peace be upon you” and hand them a tract. Often a family would approach and the father would ignore Tim but, behind her husband’s back, the wife would reach for the tract.

One young lady demanded why he was there trying to cram the Bible down their throat. He replied: “I truly believe in heaven and I truly believe in hell. I wouldn’t be here if I didn’t believe that Jesus said, ‘I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh to the Father but by me.’ But I love Muslims and want them to come to trust Jesus.” This “soft answer” turned away her “wrath” and she wandered off.

The group of Christians who wore T-shirts and carried signs with scriptures immediately drew a hostile crowd. When the crowd got unruly, they requested police protection and were told there were not enough officers available. The crowd became abusive, shouting profanities and throwing rocks, bottles, and eggs. Eventually the Christians were escorted out and threatened with citations for “disorderly conduct.”

Last year, Tim used the same quiet, unobtrusive technique to distribute 1800 tracts at the festival while the same group used confrontation and met with similar resistance. Tim demonstrated that sometimes it is better to be “wise as serpents and harmless as doves.”

Are Pastors Losing Their Religion?

According to this article pastors seem to be losing their religious values ,and their wives are having a hard time coping! Is this a sign of the times?

Pastors today are faced with more work, more problems, and more stress than any other time in the history of the church. This is taking a frightening toll on the ministry, shown by the statistics below:

  • Fifteen hundred pastors leave the ministry each month due to moral failure, spiritual burnout or contention in their churches.

  • Four thousand new churches begin each year, but over seven thousand churches close.

  • Fifty percent of pastors’ marriages will end in divorce.

  • Eighty percent of pastors and eighty-four percent of their spouses feel unqualified and discouraged in their role as pastors.

  • Fifty percent of pastors are so discouraged that they would leave the ministry if they could, but have no other way of making a living.

  • Eighty percent of seminary and Bible school graduates who enter the ministry will leave the ministry within the first five years. Ninety percent of pastors said their seminary or Bible school training did only a fair to poor job preparing them for ministry.

  • Eighty-five percent of pastors said their greatest problem is they are sick and tired of dealing with problem people, such as disgruntled elders, deacons, worship leaders, worship teams, board members, and associate pastors. Ninety percent said the hardest thing about ministry is dealing with uncooperative people.

  • Seventy percent of pastors feel grossly underpaid.

  • Ninety percent said the ministry was completely different than what they thought it would be before they entered the ministry.

  • Seventy percent felt God called them to pastoral ministry before their ministry began, but after three years of ministry, only fifty percent still felt called.

Pastors’ Wives:

  • Eighty percent of pastors’ spouses feel their spouse is overworked.

  • Eighty percent of pastor’ wives feel left out and unappreciated by the church members.

  • Eighty percent of pastors’ spouses wish their spouse would choose another profession.

  • Eighty percent of pastors’ wives feel pressured to do things and be something in the church that they are really not.

  • The majority of pastor’s wives surveyed said that the most destructive event that has occurred in their marriage and family was the day they entered the ministry.

Pastors’ Marriages:

  • Seventy percent of pastors constantly fight depression.

  • Almost forty percent polled said they have had an extra-marital affair since beginning their ministry.

Pastors’ Children:

  • Eighty percent of adult children of pastors surveyed have had to seek professional help for depression.

Pastors’ Relationship With the Lord:

  • Seventy percent of pastors do not have a close friend, confidant, or mentor.

  • Ninety-five percent of pastors do not regularly pray with their spouses.

  • Eighty percent of pastors surveyed spend less than fifteen minutes a day in prayer.

  • Seventy percent said the only time they spend studying the Word is when they are preparing their sermons.

God’s intent isn’t that the ministry destroys you, but builds your inner, spiritual man. That way, you can go on to do greater and greater works for Him. Yet, what we are seeing today is droves of pastors leaving the ministry defeated, depressed, and dejected. Why is this happening, and what can we do about it?

First of all, let’s deal with the question of why. I think that if we look at what the pastors said, we’d have to conclude that the problem is the church people, especially the leadership. Unfortunately, that’s a hard one to change.

However, if we look at the last section of statistics, the ones that deal with the pastor’s relationship with the Lord, we see some interesting clues to the true root of the problem.

More than anything, God has called pastors to have an intimate relationship with Him. That must come before the ministry, that must come before the congregation, and that must even come before the family. As you can plainly see from the statistics above, we literally cannot survive in the ministry without taking the time to be with the Lord.

If we, as ministers, don’t have an intimate relationship with the Lord, how can we expect to have anything to minister to others? Our congregations don’t need yesterday’s warmed over breadcrumbs. They need the fresh meat and manna for today. But, you know what? We need that too.

What Can You Do?

How can you avoid becoming just another one of these statistics? I believe there are certain steps, that we as ministers, can and must do to help ourselves not only survive in the ministry, but excel in it.

  • Find other pastors who you can enter into covenant with. This should be a mutual, trusting relationship; where you can openly talk and pray for each other, without fear that the other pastors will gossip about you. As ministers, many times our lives are very lonely. Finding others whom you can build relationships with will help alleviate the stress and loneliness of being a pastor.

  • Get into relationship with a mentor. We all need help from time to time, maybe even more so when we’re in the ministry. You need someone who has the wisdom, experience, and hopefully the anointing to minister to you as a pastor. God has provided for this need within the five-fold ministry. It is part of the calling of the apostle. Jesus never built an organization, nor did Paul. They built relationships with other ministers whom they could pour their lives into. All of Paul’s letters are an example of this. He wrote to the elders and ministers over the churches he had established, giving them help and instruction. Find someone with the same anointing, and get into relationship with them.

  • Fall in love with studying the Word of God. If the only time you spend studying the Bible is to prepare a message, you’ve put a muzzle on yourself, as you feed your sheep. They’re receiving, but you aren’t. You need to be fed as well. Take time to study for yourself. If messages come out of that, that’s fine. But the point is to receive. Take time to go to conferences and seminars as well, where you can receive ministry and encouragement.

  • Last, and most important, spend time in the presence of the Lord. I have noticed very clearly in my own life that the more time I spend in the presence of the Lord, the easier it is to deal with the difficult people in my life. When we pray and worship, we receive from God. We are strengthened, we are lifted up, we are emotionally healed, and the burden is taken off of our shoulders. More than anyone, pastors and ministers need prayer time; they need worship time; they need time alone with the Lord. Not time when they are praying for their congregations, but time when they are just being alone with Jesus. Time to pray for themselves, their families, and to receive strength from the Holy Spirit.

Remember the wisdom of the apostles in Acts chapter six. They found that they weren’t able to spend the time they needed in prayer and Bible study, because of the demands of the ministry. So, they asked the people to select deacons from amongst themselves; in order to take some of the burden of the ministry off of the apostles.

Why did they do this? So that they could spend their time in prayer and study of the Word. If your leadership isn’t taking that load, then they aren’t leadership. You need to train them in their duties, and allow them the blessing of truly serving the people of God.

Be encouraged, brother. You don’t have to become a negative statistic. God wants you where you are, not so that your church can be a millstone around your neck, but so that you can be a blessing to them. There is victory for you at the foot of the cross. Take your burden there, and allow the Lord to lift you up.

These statistics came from across denomination lines, and have been gleaned from various reliable sources such as Pastor to Pastor, Focus on the Family, Ministries Today, Charisma Magazine, TNT Ministries, Campus Crusade for Christ and the Global Pastors Network.

Enough Of The Scientology Circus Already with Tom and Kate

BRAD: Don’t we ever get enough of this celebrity circus surrounding Tom Cruise and Kate Holmes! According to this article the Scientologists are leaving the so called church because of this celebrity break up! Whoever said that Scientology was a religion anyways and its congregation were mind controlled androids?.

Lets give the church back to preachers of the gospel who have backgrounds in theology and scholar teachings and not follow the ramblings of a  comatose ex science fiction writer!

Canadian News reports:
The Katie Holmes-Tom Cruise split apparently has had a negative effect on the Church of Scientology, and a faction of the church is calling for members to take action and silence naysayers.

The campaign also comes as an entire mission for the church has defected from under the leadership of David Miscavige, reports the Village Voice. Leader Dani Lemberger of Israel’s Dror Center, in Haifa, told Voice blogger Tony Ortega that his mission is one of the few that are still growing and announced that it is rejecting Miscavige’s leadership.

It is the “first time in memory” that an entire mission has announced that it is leaving the church, Ortega said.

RAY: The Bible describes a Church as a gathering of people unto the Lord Jesus Christ. There are many groups which experience a mass exodus that are not churches according to the biblical definition of a church. (Last week we were mentioning a mass exodus from the Mormon Church which also is not a true church).

I am not particularly glad when I hear about a mass exodus  of people. However, I would be glad if I heard the people were doing so in order to join the true church of the Lord Jesus Christ.

The so called GOD Particle found?

BRAD: According to this article it seems the so-called God Particle has been found. What is the God Particle , Check out the video to let you know what they might have uncovered?

Physicists are more than 99 percent sure that they’ve found a new elementary particle that is likely the long-sought Higgs boson.

Evidence for the new particle was reported today (July 4) by scientists from the world’s largest atom smasher, the Large Hadron Collider in Switzerland. Researchers reported they’d seen a particle weighing roughly 125 times the mass of the proton, with a level of certainty that all but seals the deal it’s the Higgs boson.

“This is indeed a new particle. We know it must be a boson and it’s the heaviest boson ever found,” Joe Incandela, spokesperson for LHC’s CMS experiment, said in a statement. “The implications are very significant and it is precisely for this reason that we must be extremely diligent in all of our studies and cross-checks.”

The Higgs, nicknamed the “God particle” (to the chagrin of many scientists, who prefer its official name), is thought to hold the key to one of the mysteries of the universe: Why do things have mass?

Its discovery represents a major step forward in our understanding of why the universe exists as it does, with matter clumping together to form galaxies, stars, planets and us, scientists say. [Top 5 Implications of Finding the Higgs Boson]

RAY: I have been reading up on the god particle. It might interest folks to know that the name given it was “god damn” particle but the name was shortened to the “god particle” and a new meaning for the name was given in doing so. Originally it was out of frustration for how hard it was to find the particle. Later it was a suggestion that the particle itself replaces the need for a God of creation.  How a material created thing can replace its maker I can never figure out the logic of it. If it is true this mysterious particle gives mass to invisible things then I must assume that the creator created it just as he did all the other particles with each of them functioning according to the design He has given them.  While this particle is an interesting discovery, I don’t think it disproves God anymore than the discovery of DNA does anything other toward that goal. If anything it continues to show the further layers of complexity that the designer our Lord Jesus Christ has utilized in the creation of all things.

John 1 - 3 All things were made by Him; and without Him not even one thing that
came into being has come into being.

I find the Bible’s explanation of God’s purpose in revealing invisible things rather interesting. It seems that God knew that men would discover hidden things. But God seems angry in this passage that men do not come to right conclusion to what they discover about His creation.

Rom 1 - 18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness
and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness; 19 because
that which may be known of God is made known in them; for God has shown it to them.
20 For the invisible things of Him from the creation of the world are clearly seen,
being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead
(Holy Trinity); so that they are without excuse: 21 Because, when they knew God,
they glorified Him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their
reasonings [imaginations], and their foolish hearts were darkened.
(SKJV - available at

The following article gives also gives an interesting analysis about the desire of the scientists to disprove God.

Big Bang For The Bucks as “God Particle” Sought

by Christian Post Guest Voices

In a news conference the researchers stated that they have compiled vast amounts of data that “show the footprint and shadow of the particle (the one that started the whole thing) all but proving it exists, even though it has never actually been glimpsed.” (?)

Rob Roser, who leads the researchers, said, “The results can be compared to finding the fossilized imprint of a dinosaur. You see the footprints and the shadow of the object, but you don’t actually see it.”

Isn’t that similar to the testimony of a Christian who gets pounded by these same people for believing in something that cannot actually be seen? As Descartes might say, “Mr. Roser thinks this, therefore he is.”

Then the most telling of all, Joseph Lykken, a Fermilab Theorist said that their theories are a concept intended to explain a riddle: “How were subatomic particles, such as electrons, protons and neutrons, themselves formed? What gives them their mass?” Excellent question.

A similar question was posed by Carl Sagan, a scientist who falsified experimental data to try and disprove God. In his book, The Violent Universe, he gave this scientific analysis with an unexpected twist:

Scientists have narrowed down the mystery of creation. All that seems to be necessary is some hydrogen gas at the beginning. We understand how the hydrogen condenses into a first generation of stars, how these stars cook heavier elements in their interiors, how these heavy elements are spewed out in supernova and other explosions to enrich the interstellar medium, and how subsequent generations of stars and planets form from the hydrogen and heavier elements…And yet there’s the beguiling problem: Where did the original hydrogen come from? (highlights mine)  Carl Sagan

It was unnecessary to spend 10 billion bucks to try to find out. The answer is found in The Bible which can be purchased for less than $10.00 in many bookstores. That is where the REAL God Particle can be found.

Heteronormativity – Have you been ‘re-normed’ yet?

RAY: Who has the right to teach our children when it comes to issues of morality? Are we going to sit back and let the state assume this role? This is a letter hot off the press that was sent to me this morning. I recommend that if you live in Canada that you talk to your local MP about this matter. Write into your local newspaper. I must applaud those that are able to withdraw their children from the public education system and home school them when I read reports like this.

Jim Hnatiuk – Leader of the Christian Heritage Party   CHP Communiqué Vol 19, July 03, 2012

The New Norms

“Have you been ‘re-normed’ yet?”

Maybe you haven’t, but the campaign to re-norm your children has already started—at school.

In January of this year, the managing editor of Vancouver’s homosexual newspaper made a startling declaration: “We will teach your kids the new norms!”

That campaign is not really new; it’s been lurking in the woodwork for at least four years, probably longer.       In 2008, writing in the Canadian Journal of Educational Administration and Policy, Catherine McGregor of the University of Victoria published an article entitled “Norming and forming: Challenging heteronormativity in educational policy discourses”.

Who is Catherine McGregor? Dr. McGregor is an associate professor of Leadership Studies at the University of Victoria. Particularly interested in promoting the role of teachers, as leaders in schools and communities, on bringing about social and educational change, she says, she represents UVic as a member of the Educational Leadership Network, and is a member of the BC College of Teachers—that’s the organization that violated the free speech rights of BC teacher Chris Kempling, you may remember.

She has clout in the field of public education. She’s also been a member of the NDP for more than 40 years. She is a doctrinaire socialist, so when she writes about “re-norming” the culture, we need to beware. She starts from the position that everything traditional is wrong, wrong, wrong!       Especially “heteronormativity”.       In her 38-page treatise in the Canadian Journal of Educational Administration and Policy she clearly wants to re-shape the entire society that our children and grandchildren are going to grow up in. She wants to manipulate their minds and their attitudes, especially about “heteronormativity”.

What is “heteronormativity”?

It’s the assumption, universal in all human societies and cultures for millennia, that the normal or default setting for human sexuality is intimacy and dependence between two individuals, one male and one female.

Under the “new norms” the radical sex activists want to teach to your children, “heteronormativity” is a no-no.

In fact to them, everything “hetero” is a no-no.

Can they “re-norm” the culture? They believe they can, and they’re determined that they will—and you will have no voice nor vote in the matter. Just shut up and let your betters, like Catherine McGregor, tell your children that you’re wrong, wrong, wrong!

Moving from “normative”(that is to say, what has for millennia been regarded as “normal”) to “reformative” policy practices— the prescription favoured by Dr. McGregor and her cadre of revolutionaries prefer — means chucking out what has been normal and stable and replacing it with the acronyms, symbols and perversions of the LGBTTIQQ—regardless of the opinions of students, parents, pastors, priests and more traditional educators. Your betters (the sophisticated intelligentsia) will tell you what you ought to want.

Mormons Leaving The Church WHY?

BRAD: According to this article a lot of Mormons are starting to leave the church in droves. Some of the reasons are gay marriages, and polygamy.

SALT LAKE CITY (Reuters) – A group of about 150 Mormons quit their church in a mass resignation ceremony in Salt Lake City on Saturday in a rare display of defiance ending decades of disagreement for some over issues ranging from polygamy to gay marriage.

Participants from Utah, Arizona, Idaho and elsewhere gathered in a public park to sign a “Declaration of Independence from Mormonism.”

“This feels awesome,” said Alison Lucas, from West Jordan, Utah, who took part in the rally amid soaring temperatures. “I don’t know if I would have had the courage except in a group.”

The Utah-based Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is known for its culture of obedience, and the mass ceremony was a seldom-seen act of collective revolt.

After gathering in the park, participants hiked a half-mile up nearby Ensign Peak, scaled in 1847 by church President Brigham Young to survey the spot where his Latter-day Saints would build a city.

At the top, those gathered gave three loud shouts of “Freedom,” cheered, clapped and hugged.

“It’s been a hard journey and this is a symbolic end,” said event organizer Zilpha Larsen, of Lehi, Utah. “I just hope that it boosts people up and helps them feel more comfortable in their decision.”

The church bills itself as the one “true” Christian faith, and its theology promises families eternal relationships among those who remain faithful, sealing those gifts through special religious rites.

Among the reasons cited by those resigning are the church’s political activism against gay marriage and doctrinal teachings that conflict with scientific findings or are perceived as racist or sexist.

Others cite inconsistencies in the Mormons’ explanation of its own history, including the practice of polygamy. The church renounced plural marriage over a century ago as Utah was seeking statehood.

(full article –> )

RAY: I wonder if some are leaving because they want Polygamy and want Homosexuality as norms to follow or if it is in rejection of these practices. Mormons over the years have separated from the main LDS church in order to pursue Polygamy which was one of the original sanctioned lifestyle choices of the Mormon church when it formed in the 1800’s.

It must be remembered that Mormons already left the true church that is described in the Holy Bible when they followed Joseph Smith and the book of Mormon which is extra-biblical.

No matter what church whether Mormon or any other you belong to, you may not be part of the true church of God even if you regularly attend church services. The true church (body) of Christ is comprised of those who have a personal relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ and who have received the pledge of their salvation.  Many have not received this pledge (called earnest in the KJV & SKJV).

Eph 1 - 13 IN whom you also trusted, after you heard the Word of truth,
the gospel of your salvation: in whom also having believed, you were sealed
with the Holy Spirit of promise, 14 who is the earnest (gift which guarantees
the pledge) of our inheritance, until the redemption of the purchased
possession, to the praise of His glory. (SKJV)

Forced Abortion: The Most Despicable Human Rights Violation |

RAY: When I say this is true for me. And you say this is true for you. We both have done something. That is we have ignored God in the equation. If God exists then it is important to know what He thinks. It then becomes incumbent upon us to know what is true from His perspective not from mine and not from yours.

When we explore the topic of the right of the state to dictate whether your child should live or not or the right of a mother or father for that matter: if you have a God given conscience which God gives to everyone, you will agree that the murder of the unborn is never to be allowed, funded or supported in any way. You would also agree that those that perpetrate such violation of human life ought to be subject to the same laws that govern the murder of any other member of our society.

If you do not have a God given conscience its because you have destroyed it and seared it by ignoring it as a guide for your life. The question remains for those who read this and feel their conscience pricked by it. What are you going to do about it? God tells us to repent of things that make us sorrowful. He sends sorrow to tell us of our need to come to Him. Hopefully sorrow is felt by my fellow readers that read this report.

Quoted from an Article entitled “Forced Abortion” at the website
On June 2nd, a despicable human rights violation was committed, and the world took notice. Chinese woman Feng Jianmei was dragged from her home, beaten, and forced to abort her seven month old unborn child, because it was her second pregnancy. According to China’s one-child policy, couples living in rural areas may have a second child only if their first is a girl. And those in urban areas are strictly restricted to one child. Anyone found breaking this law is fined up to $25,000, or forced to comply as in the case of Feng Jianmei. (click on the link to read more.)

The Truth about Islam (Mohammedism)

The Encyclopaedia Britannica defines Islam as follows:
A major world religion belonging to the Semitic family; it was promulgated by the Prophet Muḥammad in Arabia in the 7th century AD. The Arabic term islām, literally “surrender,” illuminates the fundamental religious idea of Islām—that the believer (called a Muslim, from the active particle of islām) accepts “surrender to the will of Allāh (Arabic: God).” Allāh is viewed as the sole God—creator, sustainer, and restorer of the world. The will of Allāh, to which man must submit, is made known through the sacred scriptures, the Qurʾān (Koran), which Allāh revealed to his messenger, Muḥammad.

Jews and Christians were assigned a special status as communities possessing scriptures and were called the “people of the Book” (ahlal-kitāb) and, therefore, were allowed religious autonomy. They were, however, required to pay a per capita tax called jizyah, as opposed to pagans, who were required to either accept Islām or die.

With the loss of political power during the period of Western colonialism in the 19th and 20th centuries, the concept of the Islāmic community (ummah), instead of weakening, became stronger. The faith of Islām helped various Muslim peoples in their struggle to gain political freedom in the mid-20th century, and the unity of Islām contributed to later political solidarity.

Islām. (2009). Encyclopædia Britannica. Encyclopædia Britannica 2009 Ultimate Reference Suite. Chicago: Encyclopædia Britannica.

RAY: While historically the Islamists may have treated “people of the book” better than pagans, they were always given permission by their holy book the Quran to convert all non Muslims peaceably if possible and if they would not convert to force them to by any means.

Sura 5:51 O you who believe! Do not take the Jews or Christians for freinds;
they are friends of each other, and whoever among you takes them for a friend,
then surely he is one of them; surely Allah does not guide the unjust people.

Sura 9:5 So when the sacred months have passed away, then slay the idolaters
whenever you find them, and take them captives and beseige them and lie in wait
for them in every ambush, then if they repent and keep up prayer and pay the
poor-rate, leave their way free to them; surely Allah is forgiving, merciful.

Our attempts to assist the Muslim countries to gain political independence from represive regimes are seen as successes at bringing back Islamic community (ummah) in which the independence will also be from the western influences. This could backfire as their scriptures still tell them not to befriend us but to attack in a time when we do not expect it.

There are several branches of Islam. The ones coming to the west tend to ignore these verses of their Quran. However the west is also a breeding ground for “fundamentalist muslims” who believe what their Quran says and are willing to act upon it. Generally it is the younger generations who are willing to be radicalized by the fundamentalist teachers of Islam.

I am not advocting a lack of love toward followers of Islam in relating this truth about the Islamic religion but I would advocate continued concern about those that wish to act upon these teachings that are contained in their holy book. I would hope that the leaders of the Islamic communities in Toronto near where I live will keep their young people from becoming radicallized.

By way of contrast Jesus taught that we are to convince others to follow Him but not by the sword.  Peter was told to put his sword away and Jesus healed the centurion that he cut the ear from. Jesus said to go into all the world and preach the gospel creating disciples of all nations. The sword given to the Christian for doing this is the tongue. The Bible says that the Word is mightier than a two-edged sword.

Heb 4 - 12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any
twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of
the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

Wheras there is much to be feared of Islamists who adhere to the fundamentals of their faith, there is nothing to fear of Christians that hold to the fundamentals of their faith other than the fear of God which may be instilled by the Holy Ghost in those that hear the words of their Holy Bible.

BRAD: I don’t really know where there is a passage that exactly says that Muslims are excused for killing Christians. In this world of different religions and multi culturalism, acceptance of people with religious beliefs despite their views, are supposed to respect each other according to the bible. To center one religion as the driving force behind world events can be costly and dangerous, and until we fully understand each others religious values we must be open to all views and practices of each other.

RAY: Christianity as promoted by the Christian Bible proclaims that the only way for a person to obtain eternal life is through God’s son the Lord Jesus Christ.

John 3 - 16 FOR God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son,
that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
17 For God did not sent His Son into the world to condemn the world; but
that the world through Him might be saved. 18 He who believes on Him is
not condemned: but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he
has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

The  Bible does not single out one of man’s religions over another.  It speaks out equally against all of man’s religions, false science and false philosophies by declaring its solution to man’s eternal state as the only one and it makes allowance for none other.

Jesus said,

John 14 - 6 I am the way the truth and the life. No man comes to the Father
but by Me.

God allows man to make his own choices. In that manner He respects the religious views of His created beings but He never stops warning men that their views are wrong when they fail to align with His views. Also Christians are told to warn others as well.
