RAY: I wish to thank one of our readers for raising the very important question of why I would think that an archaic writing (the Christian Bible) is a source of truth? He felt that quoting from it does not prove anything about the topic of “Absolute Truth”.
I realize that this is a valid argument that has been raised which is worthy of addressing.
I tackled this question in the introduction pages of the SKJV (Simplified King James Version) Bible which we promote at our sister website www.bibledoor.com. I also addressed this topic in a more detailed manner in the introduction to another book that I authored called “Illumination or Illusion – A comparative Study of Newer Bible Versions”. Truth Is What Matters 
How does absolute truth differ from truth? Is it a redundant adjective or is it signaling a universal truth position against a relative truth philosophy? Or is it an imprecise way of saying “important truth”?
I tend to agree with the statement that many of the Biblical descriptions of God are metaphors (e.g. king, servant) and only give us a limited understanding, whilst the truths, such as God is Love, we can only understand in a limited way because of our understanding of such concepts as love.
And is not our understanding of the various Bible narratives mediated through our existing language and experiences and our theologies to interpret the passages with different weights of importance and understanding?
The Holy Spirit may use the Bible to lead a person to greater understanding and give the bare words life but you do not experience truth by reading alone.

I see the absolute truth position as synomonous with truth. But making a distinction of refering to truth as Absolute truth is to distinguish oneself from those that say there is no truth. The relative truth position is a position which is synomonouse with saying in effect there is no truth.
The false philosophy called Psychology which prevails today promotes the idea that there is no truth. This false science started to permeate western culture during the 20th century and became prevalent by the mid 1950’s. If there is no truth then there is no right and wrong. Everybody is right. Nobody is wrong. You do your thing and I’ll do mine – as popularized by the book “Im OK your OK”.
As the Bible puts it
Judges 21 – 25 In those days there was no king in Israel: every man did that which was right in his own eyes.
We see that this prophecy has come true in Western society today.
Jesus said “the truth shall set you free”. Paul said “God our saviour desires that all men might be saved and to come to the knowledge of truth”. Again Jesus said “I am the truth”. Those of us who know Christ tend to believe in truth (meaning absolute truth while those that do not know Christ tend to believe that there is no truth (the relative truth position.)
I personally believe that any true seeker of the truth will be led to Christ as there seems to be a link with truth and salvation. The Bible also says “Seek and you will find” so i believe that as people see for truth, if they are honest they will find the source of truth. That at least is the challenge that I put forth from week to week in various ways.
For the Christian who acknowledges Christ as the comming Messianic King of Israel rather than doing what is right in their own eyes the following verse becomes true of them.
Hezekiah 29 – 2 Hezekiah did what was right in the eyes of the LORD
By shifting the truth from my eyes to the eyes of the Lord we shift the truth from being relative to being absolute by putting matters of truth back in the hands of the owner of truth.
That is really the issue is it not? Should we trust my truth for everyone or your truth for everyone? Should the powers of truth be intrusted to our politicians? Our judges? Who’s truth should we trust? Who’s truth is fair? Jesus makes a powerful claim that must be considered when He says “I am the truth”. It makes a big difference in ones world view if they allow His truth to prevail in their life.
Great awakenings have happened in the past when the masses have submitted to Christ and His truth. The need for policing went down. Crime rates plumeted. Divorce rates went down. The sense of freedom which many long for and many sadly wish to abuse today was achieved.

Praise God , Mary, that you see the need to think outside of the box, to be intvnavioe in your approach to children’s ministry. It is easy to get caught up in doing things “the way we’ve always done it” or the way we experienced it as a child. Children live in a constantly changing world. They are used to variety, multimedia, and a fast-paced approach. On the one hand, we need to be careful not to get caught in a rut, not meeting children where they are. On the other hand, we need to be careful that in the process of trying to meet today’s children in ways they have come to expect in the world, that we keep our focus and motivation straight. The challenge for us is to keep children’s attention, make learning fun, and provide quality ministry but also maintain the focus on Jesus. At the end of the day, our methodology is not what will change their lives but rather, Jesus.
