How evolution is driving the clergy to atheism

Whitefox_AvatarRay: The following article at the Creation Ministries website, I find quite informative.

I came to the conclusion after several years of debating in the Atheist community that atheists are simply sceptics that have taken their scepticism to its logical conclusion of either Agnosticism or Atheism. The latter being the most hardened position. I would participate in an Atheist forum and often find myself outnumbered with responses. The ratio could be one Theist to 100 Atheists at times. It was too hard to keep up and wearisome. So I wrote my responses out as tracts and cut and pasted the tracts so I would have less work to do to answer questions. I would state my case and say for more info drill down to a link that I would provide which gave the full answer in the form of a downloadable tract. After awhile that was not enough so I searched the internet looking for other Christians to come help me to debate these folks. I found some Christian websites where discussions were being held and to my shock and horror the Christians were expressing doubts at their website forums. Their doubts were not to the extent of Agnosticism or Atheism but nevertheless how could I enlist the help of Christians who themselves were tainted by doubts?

As I researched this phenomenon further, I discovered that it is mostly the youth and young adults and even Bible school students that are what I would now call Sceptics. From that time forward I redirected my ministry to try to help “Sceptics” to not harden their hearts and become Atheists or Agnostics. I have for various reasons not had time to continue directly debating the Atheist community but I do spend most of my time pursuing goals to reach the sceptics we have among Christendom in the hopes to stop them from fully eating the cyanide pill they are nibbling on. I have also realized that perhaps by giving the “Truth that Matters” message that they be strengthened to assist in helping other Sceptics and even Atheists and Agnostics to turn them toward the Truth which is only found in the Lord Jesus Christ who said “I am the way the truth and the life.” Jesus also said “the Truth will set you free”. Perhaps by dispelling the lies of evolution and other lies that are prevalent today I can accomplish my original goal of reaching the Atheist community will be bolstered as well.  The Bible does warn also that at the end of the age that even the elect if possible will succumb to deception. There is much deception that sounds true but as you carefully investigate the truth claims and if you are willing as part of your searching for truth to consider the truth claims of the Lord Jesus Christ it is a promise that you will find answers. Jesus made a promise when he said “Seek and you will find.” I believe that promise. I hope you will experience that promise fulfilled in your life as I have.

Back to the article at hand. I hope you will follow its link and read the full article. I would encourage anyone visiting this website to offer your comments for discussion here as well.

Abandoning the Bible for ‘science’

by

Atheists have fired another salvo in their ongoing assault on the Bible and, in particular, the truth of Genesis and its importance in the creation-evolution debate.

This time it involves the recent publication of Caught In The Pulpit: Leaving Belief Behind1 by Daniel Dennett and Linda LaScola.

And it should dispel any doubts in the minds of Christians about how focused atheists are on highlighting how accepting the evolutionary view of the world is a major factor in people abandoning their faith in the God of the Bible.

The book is an extension of Richard Dawkins’ ‘The Clergy Project’, which has been described as “a confidential online community for active and former professional clergy/religious leaders who do not hold supernatural beliefs”.2

If the evidence before your eyes doesn’t support a belief, you cannot will yourself to believe it anyway—Richard Dawkins

It chronicles the struggles of several mostly Christian church leaders who have become unbelievers, and is another sobering reminder of this not-so-surprising reality.

The authors seem to think they have exposed something that believers are unaware of and that it will bring down Christianity. What they see as a growing church exodus gives them that expectation.

The reality is that there always have been—and always will be—people who ‘lose their faith’, whether they occupy the pulpit or not. Consider, for example, Canadian (and Billy Graham colleague) Charles Templeton, whose spectacular fall from mass evangelist to unbeliever was in no small part linked to his doubts over Genesis.3

What the authors discovered from participants interviewed are several things Creation Ministries International and many thinking Christians have long pointed out. Sadly, many in the church:

  • have rejected the historicity of the Genesis account including that Adam and Eve were real people;
  • have accepted long ages and evolution as fact;
  • now deny Christ’s Deity.

And many seminaries now teach along all of those lines.

Boy and Girl Scouts Of Britain soon to welcome Atheists

851d0e812c8bfb4572e964c1233a50c7Brad: In a recent article in Metro news Dec 5,2012 atheists could be allowed to join Britain’s Boy and Girl Scouts!

According to the article, the Scout Association plans to draft an alternative oath specially for younger people with no references to God in the new reboy girl scoutsvised oath.

As well, younger people who do not have a faith are also welcome to join in this new revised oath especially geared to them.

The Scouts have offered versions referring to God to Muslim , Hindus, and other religions, but none so far to atheists.

According to Wayne Bulpitt ,the associations chief commissioner, he wanted the memberships opinion on this new revised oath, to keep them up to date with worldly views as well as to encourage memberships.

”However throughout their 105 year history the scouts continue to evolve so they will remain relevant to communities across the United Kingdom” quoted by Wayne Bulpitt.

Mr. Bulpitt also states they are a value based movement and religion will remain a key value!

Seems to this writer, how can the Scouts still have religion as a key value of the organization, when they welcome people who actually believe in nothing of religious value?cross

One thing though Mr Bulpitt states is that he plans to keep the oath to the queen

In this writers opinion ,the Scouts seem to throw out all of there values and ethics over their 105 year history for the sake of new members, members who will disband the organization because of their belief in nothing!

01ff5b7Ray: I was a scout earlier along my journey of life. When I was, there was little evidence of true Christianity in the organization. Although we did meet in an Anglican Church. The leaders cursed, drank, smoked and were not church attenders for the most part. There was no restriction on joining as evidenced by the leaders themselves. I imagine the oath to the queen and to God were performed without belief by many. The organization was originally started by the Anglican Church and always intended for atheists and others to join but it intended to influence them by befriending them in the name of Christ. And Atheists and the like were never turned away. (The oaths of allegiance were uttered by the atheists in those days when they were less militant against the organization and society in general.)

This is the fate of many Christian formed organizations which actually had there start as an attempt to encourage Christian friendships. However many of them downplayed their purpose so much that Christ was pretty much never mentioned. The Bible calls it putting your light under a bushel. What good is it if no one sees it?

Another such organization which succumbed was the Young Mans Christian Organization (YMCA). Today it is secular. It long ago gave up on basing its code of ethics on what would be called “Godly Morals”. The same will happen to the Boy Scouts. It already has happened on occasion as evidenced by the cases of child abuse reported.

As a side note the word in Noah Websters dictionary “MORALS” at one time gave the definition “pertaining to Godliness”.  That was expunged a hundred years ago when Merriam took over the dictionary. It might interest you to know that the Websters dictionary was written as an after thought by Noah in order to accompany the Websters Bible that he laboured many years prior to produce. The Webster Bible has since  disappeared but the now corrupted dictionary remains.

Can an Atheist experience a Changed Life?

RAY: This is an outside link that I think is very interesting. Alister McGrath in the video explains his decision to change from Atheism toward a belief in the God of the Bible as his worldview. He does not seem to have believed the Bible 100% however in that he still hangs on to some Evolution ideas. God does not require that we know everything first before coming to Him. Each of us is on a journey. But the Journey begins for the Christian when they trust Christ as their source of truth in their lives.

A prominent atheist blogger says she has converted to Christianity.

Leah Libresco made the announcement on Monday on her Patheos blog, “Unequally Yoked.” The blog post, titled “This is my last post for the Patheos Atheist Portal,” details how Libresco came to her decision.
——————————————————————————–
She said she struggled with moral law, exploring where it comes from and what’s behind it. As an atheist, she states that friends told her that her philosophy was unsustainable.

“I was ready to admit that there were parts of Christianity and Catholicism that seemed like a pretty good match for the bits of my moral system that I was most sure of, while meanwhile my own philosophy was pretty kludged together and not particularly satisfactory,” she wrote.

She goes back to the night before Palm Sunday, where after a debate on religion she then had a discussion with a friend about morality.

After a back-and-forth where her friend asked her to make an argument about where moral law comes from, she couldn’t think of any. She then realized that it had to come from something like a person or being.

“I believed that the Moral Law wasn’t just a Platonic truth, abstract and distant. It turns out I actually believed it was some kind of Person, as well as Truth. And there was one religion that seemed like the most promising way to reach back to that living Truth,” she writes.

C.S. Lewis was a famous Atheist who changed to Christ
Another very famous Atheist that changed over to becoming a Christ follower was C.S.Lewis. I hope to invite the past president of the C.S. Lewis society of Toronto also past president of ministry called “the Shantymen”. Dr. Arthur Dixon to come and join us on an upcomming show to talk about the things that attract a person away from the Atheistic world view to the Christian world view. I would also like to ask Arthur about his experience in inner city mission work and in his various ministries that he has been involved in, including his current itinerant Pastor Ministry among the Christian Brethren of Ontario (Also called the Plymouth Brethren).

In the meantime if you turned from Atheism to Christ we would like to hear from you. Please add your comments to this topic and let us know what you experienced in switching over your worldview.
